Synod began in 1973 as a single group home for 15 men with mental illness in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Synod Community Services is now comprised of over 100 staff members serving more than 200 clients annually. Our services are available to anyone in need and include financial advocacy, health related services, and personal enrichment and assistance.

For more than 40 years, our clients’ needs have directed the expansion of our services to include a wide variety of housing options in both staffed and unstaffed settings. Today, our population includes the elderly, the homeless, those deemed medically fragile, and individuals with mental illness, substance abuse disorders, brain injury, and HIV/AIDS.

Throughout our growth, our approach has remained the same: to provide individualized social services that promote dignity and independence.
