In Oakland and Washtenaw counties, Synod operates 11 licensed specialized residences for vulnerable adults in need of around-the-clock staff support. While each program serves a unique group with individual needs, in every program support and safeguarding are built on practices that first empower clients. Without this unifying principle safety may be experienced at the expense of self-determination and other prized qualities of life.
Described as community housing plus sites, these programs offer shared housing where staff are available to assist clients with the tasks of daily living and to help them progress toward greater independence. Services include therapeutic direct care, meal preparation and nutrition assistance, transportation and transportation training, prescription management, health care assistance, personal growth and skill support. In addition case management and treatment services are provided by the core service agency for that geographic area. Brief descriptions of each site are provided below.
Northfield Church Place /Crisis Residential Services – Originally established in 1987, CRS moved to its current facility in Ann Arbor in 2019. CRS is a licensed 6 bed co-ed program under contract with Washtenaw County Community Mental Health (WCCMH). CRS is a short-term crisis intervention that provides community based support and treatment to adults experiencing a psychiatric crisis. An alternative to hospitalization, CRS provides a safe environment where participants can stabilize and work to resolve the crisis they are experiencing. Staffing consists of around-the-clock double staffing. There are WCCMH nursing, case management and Psychiatry services provided on site as well.
Grant – Established in 1996 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Grant House is a licensed program with six beds, serving co-ed geriatric individuals. Grant House provides medical support services in addition to psychosocial rehabilitative supports to older mentally ill adults. Staffing is 24 hours with a staffing pattern of at least two staff on around the clock.
Clark Pine – Established in 2000 in Clarkston, Michigan. Clark Pine is our most intensive licensed facility. Clark Pine provides housing and rehabilitation services for individuals who have been unable to live in other residential settings in the community. Staffing is 24 hours with a staffing pattern of a minimum of two or three staff on days and evenings and two staff on midnight’s.
Munger – Established in 2022 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Munger is a licensed program with six beds, serving co-ed geriatric individuals. Munger provides medical support services in addition to psychosocial rehabilitative supports to older mentally ill adults. Staffing is 24 hours with a staffing pattern of at least two staff on around the clock.
Packard – Established in 2001 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Packard House is a licensed facility with six beds, serving co-ed adults. Packard House operates intensive psychosocial rehabilitative programming for severely mentally ill adults. Staffing is 24 hours with a staffing pattern of a minimum of two staff on days and evenings and one staff on midnight’s.
Prosperity – Established in 1999 in Oxford, Michigan. Prosperity House is a licensed facility for six beds, serving co-ed adults. Prosperity House operates intensive psychosocial rehabilitative programming for severely mentally ill adults. Staffing is 24 hours with a staffing pattern of a minimum of two or three staff on days and evenings and two staff on midnight’s.
Rosewood – Established in 1999 in Southfield, Michigan, it has moved to Oak Park. Rosewood is a four bed facility for women. Rosewood serves consumers who need intensive medical assistance in addition to therapeutic psychosocial support.
Saxon – Established in 1995 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Saxon House is a six bed co-ed licensed facility, currently serving all women. Saxon assists geriatric consumers who need medical support services in addition to therapeutic psychosocial support. The program is double staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Spanish Lake – Established in 2005 in Troy, Michigan. Spanish Lake is a specialized licensed facility with six beds, serving co-ed adults. The house provides therapeutic psychosocial supports for mentally ill adults. Staffing is 24 hours a day.
Synod House – Established in 1973 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the program has recently moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan. Synod House is a licensed facility for six co-ed adults. It provides intensive psychosocial rehabilitative services for severely mentally ill adults. Staffing is 24 hours a day. This is still considered one of the best programs of its kind in the area.
Turning Point – Established in 2005 in Southfield, Michigan. Turning Point is a licensed facility with six beds, serving co-ed adults. Turning Point operates programming for mentally ill adults. Staffing is 24 hours with a staffing pattern of two staff on days and evenings and one staff on midnight’s.
